The Role

Our Support Workers are accountable to the Field Workforce Team Leader and are responsible for providing support to individuals and their families to remain independent to live their life the way they choose, in their home and community. 

Duties will include:

  • Personal care
  • Making beds, general cleaning, laundry (washing and ironing),
  • Food preparation and/or cooking, General Life Skills
  • Assistance with banking and/or shopping, transport/accompany to appointments, prompt the taking of medications from dosettes / webster packs, gardening, social outings
  • Respite and Social Support
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation and communication with office staff

About You

We are seeking enthusiastic and passionate mental health support workers, with exceptional communication skills including the ability to communicate with linguistically diverse persons and utilise non-verbal forms of communication. You will be able to work both independently and as part of a team and be physically fit and able to perform duties which involve prolonged and significant physical activity including lifting, walking, bending and stretching.

You will have:

  • A satisfactory DCSI Aged & Child Employment screenings 
  • Demonstrated understanding of relevant privacy, confidentiality and security legislation
  • Demonstrated understanding of WHS risks associated with the position (both from client and support worker perspective)
  • Ability to describe the principles of person-centred care
  • Commitment to the program’s success and to attend relevant training
  • Ability to communicate and use a smart phone/tablet for telephone and electronic communication
  • Ability to mentor vulnerable clients to develop and maintain safe and positive relationships and assist customers to pursue their interests and participate in activities.
  • Ability and experience in managing challenging behaviours
  • Availability to work across a variety of shifts on weekdays, evenings  and weekends
  • Sensitive to the particular needs of vulnerable people, including the aged, people with mental health or intellectual and physical disabilities, and their networks and families

Qualifications and Experience

  • Cert IV in Mental Health (essential minimum qualification)
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate
  • Current Drivers Licence, own transport and willingness to travel between clients
  • Current Child Safe Environments Training Certificate


  • Minimum of 12 months in the Community Sector as a Mental Health Support Worker
  • Personal Care Qualification
